How to Plan a Perfect Family Ski Trip to Bear Valley Ski Resort

Are you looking for the perfect winter getaway for your family? Look no further than Bear Valley Ski Resort in Bear Vally, California — just a 40-minute drive from Dorrington. Located in the heart of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, this family-friendly resort offers something for everyone, from beginner slopes to challenging terrain for more experienced skiers. Here are some tips for planning the perfect family ski trip to Bear Valley.

Choose the Right Time to Go
When planning a family ski trip, it’s important to consider the timing. Bear Valley Ski Resort typically opens in early December and closes in early April. The best time to go depends on your family’s schedule and preferences. If you want to avoid the crowds, try going mid-week or early in the season before the holiday rush.

Rent Equipment in Advance
Save time and hassle by renting your ski equipment in advance. The Bear Valley Ski Resort offers rentals for skis, snowboards, boots, and helmets on a first-come first served basis. You can get a jump on things and rent your equipment ahead of time in Arnold at Sierra Nevada Adventure Company

Take Lessons
If you’re new to skiing or snowboarding, taking lessons is a great way to start. The Bear Valley Ski Resort offers group and private lessons for all ages and skill levels. They also have a separate learning area for beginners, which is excellent for families with young children – both of our children learned to ski and board here! Lessons can fill up quickly, so we really recommend reserving your spot as early as possible.

Choose the Right Accommodations
The Bear Valley area offers a variety of lodging options, from hotels and lodges to private cabins and vacation rentals.  Lodging is limited in Bear Valley, so most people find a place in Arnold or Dorrington.  Be sure to book your lodging in advance, especially during peak season. Of course, you’ll want to check out our cabins – Evergreen Dorrington Chalet and Cottage. We might be just right for you!

Take Breaks and Stay Hydrated
Skiing and snowboarding can be tiring, especially for kids — remember, you are at about 8000 feet elevation. Make sure to take frequent breaks and stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Also, remember to bring sunblock, as sunburn can be severe on the slopes.

Enjoy Non-Skiing Activities
If skiing or snowboarding isn’t your family’s thing, there are plenty of other activities to enjoy at the ski mountain and surrounding areas. Try snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, or sledding. For snowmobile adventures, try Bear Valley Snowmobile.

Drop us a note if you have any questions about enjoying the area, whether you stay with us or not!  That’s what we’re here for.
